Curated & designed by Janet Chu

There was a moment when I became acutely aware of how fragile spaces can be—how quickly familiar places change, and how deeply we crave calm when the world feels unsettled.

My journey into the natural world of flowers began after experiencing the Eaton Fire firsthand. My family and I live less than a quarter mile from where the Altadena Eaton Fire broke out. At the time, I was nearly finished—about 90% complete—with building an ADU behind my home. When the fire started, my first thought was simple and visceral: all that hard work, reduced to ashes. My neighborhood witnessed catastrophe, and the sense of uncertainty lingered long after the flames were contained.

In the aftermath, I found myself drawn toward living things that asked for patience rather than urgency. Orchids, in particular, became a practice in restraint. They don’t rush. They don’t bloom on command. They respond to light, consistency, and care over time.

Designing with orchids became a way to slow the noise. Instead of reacting, I began composing. Instead of filling space, I learned to leave room for breath. Each arrangement became less about decoration and more about creating a quiet anchor — something living, present, and enduring.

That philosophy continues to guide my work. I design orchids not to overwhelm a space, but to steady it. To offer a moment of pause. To remind us that beauty doesn’t need to announce itself to be felt.

Alongside this work, I also designed and built the digital home for Orchid Boutique. I’m happy to share that www.Orchid-Boutique.com has officially launched—marking a new chapter for the studio and for my own creative practice.

With the website live, I step fully into the journey of running a floral retail space while bringing filmmaking into the mix. Orchid Boutique is no longer just a place to purchase orchids—it’s a living set, a gallery, and a storytelling platform. The same cinematic thinking that guides my arrangements now informs how the brand is experienced online: pacing, mood, visual rhythm, and narrative flow.

This convergence feels natural. Retail becomes scene-setting. Orchids become characters. The shop becomes both a storefront and a stage—where design, light, and story quietly intersect.

What unfolds next is an ongoing exploration of how film language can live inside a floral business: through short-form visual stories, curated collections, and a space that invites people not just to buy, but to feel something and linger.

My process is intuitive and cinematic. I study how each orchid falls into place—its curves, its posture, its personality—and I direct it, much like framing a shot. Every bloom is placed with intention: proportions, color harmony, and spatial rhythm are key. And of course, lighting is everything. The way an orchid catches the light can transform the entire piece.

If you're interested in a customized orchid piece tailored to your space, story, or special event, I’d love to collaborate.

As the location manager for Orchid Boutique, I also welcome filmmakers, artists, and entrepreneurs to book the space for creative shoots or pop-up events through Peerspace.

BREAKFAST WITH AUBREY

  • Small $130
  • Medium $220
  • Large $350

A petite arrangement with graceful orchids and delicate pearl accents — where timeless elegance meets modern simplicity.

Director’s Note: The photo you see is more of a storyboard than a shot-for-shot recreation. Every orchid arrangement is its own production — sometimes the “lead vase” gets recast or a supporting plant steps in for a close-up due to seasonal scheduling conflicts. But don’t worry — the essence, theme, and color grading will always stay true to the original vision. If substitutions are required, they’ll be of equal or greater star power and keep the arrangement looking like a box-office beauty.
